Who it's for

  • Those who already use ChatGPT or Claude and want to summarize YouTube videos at no extra cost. It has no separate fees because the extension simply extracts transcripts and pastes them into your AI window.
  • Those who want to copy the full transcript of a lecture video, feed it to their preferred AI, and continue asking follow-up questions.
  • Those who need a web highlighting tool to underline and collect text. Glasp's original core feature is social web highlighting.

Drawbacks

  • Summary quality and usage limits depend entirely on the connected AI service. Videos without transcripts cannot be summarized.
  • The interface is in English, which might feel confusing when setting it up for the first time.
  • It lacks timeline summaries and timestamp links to the original text. A dedicated tool like Lilys AI is better for reviewing long lectures section by section.

Getting started

  1. Install the "YouTube Summary with ChatGPT & Claude" extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open any YouTube video, and a Transcript box will appear on the right side.
  3. Click the AI icon above the box to transfer the transcript into a ChatGPT or Claude window with an automatic summary prompt.
  4. Ask for your desired format in that window, such as "Summarize in Korean in 5 bullet points."
  5. Click any timestamp in the transcript box to jump to that video section. You can also copy the entire transcript to paste it into another AI.
