Who it's for
- People who don't want to install another app and would rather ask inside KakaoTalk. Adding the channel is all it takes
- People who want to photograph a document, sign, or receipt, read the text, and translate or summarize it. Recognizing text in photos (OCR) is its strength
- Introducing AI to parents and older relatives for the first time. The familiar KakaoTalk screen makes it easy to explain
Drawbacks
- Free messages are capped per day, so heavy use means buying credits
- Being a KakaoTalk chat window, it's awkward to read long answers or handle files, and it holds conversation context only briefly
- Feature updates come later than at the original service, and on PC you can only use it through the KakaoTalk PC version
Getting started
- Search KakaoTalk for "AskUp" and add the channel.
- Write a question in the chat window. For example: "Translate this sentence into English."
- Send a photo and it reads the text. Follow up with "summarize it" or "translate it".
- There are commands — starting with "?" mixes search into the answer, for instance — so read the channel guide once.
- When you hit the free limit, check credits as instructed. Don't send photos containing personal information.
